Pombo Brothers and i-MOTO Racing Return to the Podium at Road America

June 24, 2011 – Elkhart Lake, WI – After a crash filled race, Mark and Mathew Pombo drove a flawless race to finish 3rd at Road America in the #31 i-MOTO MAZDASPEED 3.  This is the second podium of the season for the Pombo brothers. Team owner, Glenn Bocchino stated, “Mark and Mat Pombo are the real deal, fast and smart. It’s a privilege having them part of the i-MOTO”.

Team i-MOTO knew the Road America was going to be a challenge due to the Grand Am making its 4th performance adjustment for the season. Another boost reduction due to a new “altitude adjustment scale” meant the i-MOTO MAZDASPEED 3’s would struggle at the high speed Road America circuit.

The #32 i-MOTO MAZDASPEED 3 piloted by Taylor Hacquard and Pierre Kleinubing drove a great race till a safety infraction during the pit stop forced the team a one minute stop and go penalty, causing the #32 to go a lap down. Taylor drove a great race battling with the #10 and #12 KIA’s throughout his stint. Handing the car over to co-driver Pierre Kleinubing in the top five. Pierre drove like Pierre drives, fast! Running down the leader to get his lap back but to many cautions derailed his charge, with the race finishing under full course caution.

The #30 i-MOTO MAZDASPEED 3 piloted by Chip Herr and Glenn Bocchino also fell victim to a pit stop mishap, causing the #30 team car to fall a lap down on their scheduled pit stop. Chip Herr too drove like the professional he is, powered through the field also on pace to pass the class leaders to get his lap back, but his run was stopped short buy a late race full course caution.

Team i-MOTO officially returns to action at Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway near Monterey, CA July 8th – 9th. The race will be televised 7/17, 1:00 PM ET on the SPEED. Living timing and scoring is available Saturday July 9th for the start of the race on www.grand-am.com
