Ryan Ellis has signed with I-Moto Racing

Ashburn, VA: 22 year old Grand-Am star Ryan Ellis has signed with I-Moto Racing of Raleigh, North Carolina for the remainder of the 2012 Grand-Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, (CTSCC)  season. I-Moto team owner Glenn Bocchino confirmed that Ellis will campaign as the closing driver for one of the Team’s three MazdaSPEED 3 race cars in the Street Tuner, (ST) class. Ellis and I-Moto will be competing in the Grand AM series’  next event June 9th at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

The return to Mazda represents a homecoming of sorts for Ellis, who rose to national attention as a teenager racing in Mazda’s Spec Miata class. “In recent years, even as I have enjoyed racing successes in some other marques, MazdaSPEED and I maintained our close ties - it was always in my mind to find a path back to that organization and I’m very happy to do so with a first class organization like I-Moto. Thanks to Glenn and I-Moto, we have returned to our roots and I am extremely happy to be back racing in a Mazda. “

Ellis started the season driving for Insight Racing in a BMW 128i, taking that racecar to a win recently at Homestead - Miami Speedway. It was the first series win ever for Insight Racing, in just the team’s second season. But with financial difficulties looming, Road Race Technologies, (RRT) Racing of Sterling, VA took over that Team and is in the process of restructuring the organization going forward. “RRT and Insight Racing were great to us, and we will be supporting RRT’s efforts to restructure the (former) Insight Racing Team for a championship run in 2013. At the end of the season, we will discuss 2013 plans with both teams, but for right now I am extremely thankful to have Glenn,  I-Moto and Mazda provide me with an opportunity to continue to compete for the 2012 championship”, said Ellis.

In addition to his Grand-Am duties, Ryan is campaigning throughout 2012 as driver of Race Car Replicas/Team Superlite Cars’, (SLC) factory race team. Ellis won the NASA Super Unlimited National Championship for the team in 2011, and has shattered track records for the SLC race division at every track they’ve visited. He’ll appear in that car next at Summit Point, WV’s NASA Hyperfest June 16-17.

Currently a senior at George Mason University, Ryan is also a professional racing instructor and a frequent host on CBS/WJFK’s weekly “In the Pits” radio talk show.
